SANITARY SEWER SPILL REPORT TO EPD
Town Creek Lift Station
DATE OF SPILL: Monday, January 22, 2024
REPORT SUBMITTED: Initial notification to EPD made 1-22-24 at 12:04PM (Incident #107478); written report sent to EPD Mountain District 1-23-24 at 5:30PM
LOCATION OF SPILL: Town Creek Lift Station, 1025 Mineral Springs Road N Jasper, GA 30143
CAUSE OF SPILL: Pump failure in lift station wet well due to pump getting clogged up by materials not intended to be flushed through the sewer system. Pump motor burned up.
ESTIMATED VOLUME DISCHARGED: 2,000 gallons
RECEIVING WATERS: Town Creek
WRF NPDES PERMIT: GA0032204
CORRECTIVE ACTION TAKEN TO MITIGATE OR TO REDUCE ADVERSE EFFECTS: City crews replaced the pump.
SPILL STATUS: City crews stopped the spill and replaced the pump in the lift station. The area has been remediated with lime, and samples are being taken upstream and downstream of the incident for 7 days. Any questions may be directed to Kim Goldener with the City of Jasper, 706-692-9100.

CORRECTIVE ACTION TAKEN TO PREVENT FUTURE OCCURENCES: All lift stations are checked daily. City crews will check the collection system upstream of this station to ensure that rags, wipes, and other materials found wound up in the pump motor and around the pump housing are being cleared from the system before they have an opportunity to cause problems at the station.
