JASPER FIRE DEPARTMENT RECEIVES EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICES LICENSE
The City of Jasper is pleased to announce that the Jasper Fire Department has received their license as an Emergency Medical Services (EMS) agency. This license authorizes Jasper Fire Department personnel to respond as a Medical First Responder agency to emergency calls and provide Basic Life Support services.
Chief John Sherrer III advised that the purpose behind the Fire Department attaining the EMS licensing is to be able to offer a higher level of care to the patient and to reduce the overall response time for care to be provided. Chief Sherrer added "Once our team has operated at the BLS level and perfected our new processes, we will advance to the Advanced Life Support (ALS) level."
Chief Sherrer said that he is pleased by the enthusiasm Jasper Fire Department's first responders have shown while pursuing their advanced training and licensing. Firefighter/Paramedic Montana Teems summed it up well advising that "the majority of incidents firefighters respond to are medical emergencies. This is why your Jasper Fire Department has recruited and trained Paramedics, Advanced EMTs, and Emergency Medical Technicians on all shifts." Mr. Teems added that "beginning August 1, 2024, all Jasper Fire Department apparatus are equipped with life saving medications and additional equipment for when our community needs us the most. This will allow our personnel to begin life saving care before the ambulance arrives... we look forward to providing a higher level of service to our community for years to come."
Mayor Kirk D. Raffield stated that "the Jasper Fire Department has a rich history of service to our community. I commend the entire department for their dedication to our community and look forward to the new level of service being offered in the pursuit of saving lives and property in our community."
