CITY OF JASPER FIRE AND POLICE DEPARTMENTS MODERNIZE PUBLIC SAFETY COMMUNICATIONS
New radio technologies from Motorola Solutions to help first responders in 'The First Mountain City' stay connected and communicate with clarity.

(Jasper, GA) - The City of Jasper today announced it is equipping its Fire and Police Departments with new radio technologies that will help first responders better communicate during emergencies in the 'First Mountain City.' The initiative modernizes the city's public safety infrastructure to improve coverage, clarity, and reliability of first responders' mission-critical communications.

"We are proud to equip the City of Jasper's fire and police services with reliable radio communications that will keep them connected during emergencies so that they can better serve our entire community," said Kirk Raffield, mayor of the City of Jasper. "This project is an example of our ongoing investment in and commitment to providing our public safety departments with the key resources they need to excel in service."

The Jasper Fire and Police Departments will respectively be equipped with Motorola Solutions APX NEXT XE and APX NEXT radios. These next-generation, mission-critical Project 25 (P25) public safety radios are designed to meet the rigorous demands of emergency response. They have powerful audio capabilities for clear transmission - even amidst blaring sirens - and their touchscreens can be used in the rain, extreme heat, or while wearing thick gloves.

Both departments will also use SmartConnect, which helps to extend the range of the radios, supplementing the city'Very High Frequency (VHF) land mobile radio network with cellular LTE capabilities. This helps first responders maintain connectivity across challenging terrain and offers more opportunities for mutual aid communication with neighboring counties.

"This is truly game-changing technology and a vital investment in the future of public safety in Jasper," said Montana Teems, firefighter/paramedic and project manager for the new radio implementation initiative. "Its success reflects the strong support and collaboration among our personnel, elected officials, and city administration, who are all committed to ensuring our agencies are better prepared to assist our community members in their times of need."

This radio upgrade will help to improve interagency coordination, enhance situational awareness, and support faster, more informed responses to emergencies across Jasper and the surrounding area. Jasper's first responders will be able to directly communicate with their counterparts in Cherokee County, Bartow County, Forsyth County, and Dawson County using the new mission-critical technology, and the City will maintain interoperability with Gilmer County through its existing system. The added redundancy of multi-network capabilities will help keep mission-critical radio communication operational, even amidst disasters.
