OFFICER INVOLVED SHOOTING UNDER INVESTIGATION

On Sunday, March 8, 2026, City of Jasper Police Department Officers responded to a call regarding reported vandalism of vehicles in the vicinity of the Waffle House on Traveler's Rest Road in Jasper. Upon arrival, officers learned that the individual had fled the area and was reported to be armed with knives.

Jasper Police Department Officers, along with Deputies with the Pickens County Sheriff's Department, located the individual in the area of Darnell Road. During this encounter, the suspect threw a knife towards law enforcement personnel. In response, a Jasper Police Department Officer discharged their firearm, striking the suspect.

Officers secured the individual and scene until Pickens EMS arrived. The suspect was transported by Pickens County EMS to a higher level of care for additional treatment.

No law enforcement officers were injured during the incident.

The investigation has been turned over to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) in accordance with departmental policy for officer involved shootings.
