SANITARY SEWER SPILL REPORT TO EPD
Upper 108 Sanitary Sewer Lift Station - 2416 Waleska Hwy

DATE OF SPILL: Saturday, May 2, 2026

REPORT SUBMITTED: Report submitted through GEOS 3:50PM on May 2, 2026. Call to EPD made at 3:56PM on Saturday, May 2, 2026, to obtain Incident Number (#116725 assigned)

LOCATION OF SPILL: Upper 108 Sanitary Sewer Lift Station - 2416 Waleska Hwy

CAUSE OF SPILL: Wire in float relay broke on the controller

ESTIMATED VOLUME DISCHARGED: 1,500 gallons

RECEIVING WATERS: Sharp Mountain Creek

WPCP NPDES PERMIT: GA0050313

CORRECTIVE ACTION TAKEN TO MITIGATE OR TO REDUCE ADVERSE EFFECTS/OVERFLOW STATUS: City crews were contacted by the Treatment Plant regarding a customer call for a manhole just outside the station overflowing. Crews were able to get the float relay wire fixed and online and pumped the station down. The overflow was stopped at approximately 2:41PM on Saturday 5-02-2026. Crews remained onsite to ensure that the station cycled between pumps correctly and remediation work was performed. Signage has been posted and sampling upstream and downstream of the point of flow entry into the creek was started on Saturday. This will continue for 6 additional days. CORRECTIVE ACTION TAKEN TO PREVENT FUTURE OCCURENCES: This station has been checked throughout the weekend to ensure no additional issues. This station is included in the GEFA Clean Water project for sewer system rehabilitation, and will have a SCADA system installed for notifications of issues occurring at the station in real time.
