Amendment to Chapter 14 Article 1
Amend: Sec 14-3
Add: paragraph a.

a. Wildlife Feeding Policy. Human feeding of any wildlife creates an unnatural dependence by the wildlife. Anyone who is knowingly, intentionally or recklessly feeding wildlife could be cited and forced to pay a fine. A citizen is considered to be recklessly feeding if he or shee is indirectly providing food for an animal, such as leaving food out in a yard such as table scraps from a meal for a long period of time. The title only covers cases in which a person is aware that he or she is attracting wildlife and still fails to remove the sournce of attraction. This can lead to wildlife nuisance problems, instances of property damage, a threat to pets, and even threat to human life. Residents who do not have a concern for their own welfare or safety should be considerate of their neighbors’ concerns.

1. Feeding of Wildlife Other Than Birds. Intentional feeding of any wildlife, (other than birds), including raccoons, opossums, deer and bears, is strictly prohibited. This includes feeder stations, or otherwise making readily available food (including salt licks and table scraps) that would be attractive to these forms of wildlife.

2. Enforcement. Violations of the above prohibitions by residents will subject the resident to sanctions in accordance with the fining policy of The City of Jasper Feeding Ordinance. Click here for PDF
